Artist Marshall Hasbrouck teaches basics-to-advanced oil painting in an ongoing series of Saturday afternoon workshops. Instructor has more than 40 years experience in drawing and in painting in oils and water colors. The emphasis is on realistic rendering. Oils are the medium we use because of their versatility. We will work in the bookstore/studio on still life and occasionally clothed figures. With our great weather, some sessions will be outdoors for urban landscapes, and farther afield for natural settings along the bay and in nearby regional parks
Each session will cover some aspect of making pictures, such as color mixing, composition, the effects of warm and cool light, and painting on site outdoors. Most sessions will have a brief presentation talk or demonstration about some aspect of painting, followed by time to work on your own painting.
Art at Laurel Bookstore is a low pressure, high enjoyment learning environment. Leave your tasks behind for a couple hours and pick up a brush for a pleasant productive change of pace. Media: Oils on canvas. Equipment supply list is provided. First-session oil painting equipment and supplies are provided. If you bring your own gear, only odorless minerals spirits may be used indoors. Vinyl gloves are available on site.
